U14 Girls County Final Champions

The Harpenden U14 Girls cricket team were crowned county champions after beating Bishops Stortford in the county final. With half the team away on various school trips, they had to raid the Huskies for a couple of players to ensure they were able to defend their title.

They bowled first and despite a lightning fast outfield, a good bowling and fielding display meant B Stortford were restricted to a ,still healthy, 278 for 5. Pick of the bowlers were Gracie Pigott, Hannah Booth and young Alice Stanley. They knew at the changeover they had to bat well to secure victory.

Lucy Davis & Gracie Pigott got the team off to the perfect start and ended their stint without losing a wicket and with the score on 235. Hannah Booth & Alice Stanley carried on the great work, some powerful hitting and quick running lead them to 268 for 1 at the drinks interval and in a winning position. Caitlin Maclaren and young Grace Dalton (playing her first ever game of hardball cricket) entered the fray and Caitlin was on fire, despatching the ball to all parts of the ground. When they both departed they stood on 313 for 2. Hannah Burns and Sasha Bowler, also enjoyed themselves. Hannah continued her fine form, Sasha, batted as well as she has all season & more big hitting resulted in a finishing total of 352 for 3 - A great win by 74 runs.

Massive congratulations to the squad, this is their 4th county title in a row, a fabulous achievement for them. The other fantastic team members, Amy Baxter, Lucy Evans, Sarah Brooks, Sophie Hurst, Isabelle Chapman, Eleanor Hestletine, Rachel Ball Lotta Gates – none of whom could play in the final, all of whom though, have contributed so much this season. Also young Huskies, Abi Wright, Bella Robinson & Lauren Rickard, who played shows the future of girl’s cricket at Harpenden is in very, very good hands.

2018 – A brilliant mini-tour to Surrey, coming top of the boy’s league, winning the Girls County title, a summer of sunshine……if Carlsberg did cricket seasons!

Harpenden Huskies - Tournament Champions

Harpenden hosted their first ever U12 girls tournament with teams from across Hertfordshire competing and over 60 girls taking part.

Glorious sunshine, lots of great music and a big crowd ensured a carnival atmosphere throughout the day. The two Harpenden Huskie teams both safely navigated their way through their groups to set up an all Huskies final. This bought family rivalry into sharp focus with sisters from more than one family finding themselves on opposing sides.

In the end the Huskies A side got the better of their younger rivals by 49 runs, with Holly Glyn-Davies & Amelia Cloake taking the most valuable player awards for either side. Joint captains Abi Wright & Abi Hitchen collected the trophy from club chairman Simon Wade.

The mass water fight that followed was as inevitable as it was deserved. A brilliant day, superbly organised and a day that hopefully will become a firm fixture in the cricketing calendar
